Summer Nostalgia
There's something about the last days of fall, right before winter descends, that just seems to bring me misery. Ever since I was little my moods tended to swing with the weather - and boy that was a problem with the restless winds in my childhood home of northern New England!
Another gray day and I am daydreaming of a different season... wasting days sunning, swimming and sharing confidences with close friends, summer nights spent carousing fireside, horse-back riding in the early morning... But with exams coming up soon for this college student, reminiscing is not the place I need my mind to be. Fortunately there is some marvelous photography out there to sooth my pining heart.
Whilst on a family vacation in Montana this summer I came across an excerpt from a fascinating National Geographic piece on county fairs across the country. Some time later, whilst attempting to find said article, I discovered a gem of a photojournalist and his work documenting fair culture in Montana. The second coincidence in this? I spent July 4th at a rodeo in the Madison River Valley in southwestern Montana and loved every minute of that experience. Though photojournalism and the cowboy way of life are in decline, in this they both shine with the vigor of American joie de vivre... Permettez-moi de vous présenter Jenneth Jarecke, ladies & gentlemen.
